A recent ruling from The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has clarified that Data Protection Officers (DPO) can undertake other roles in the organization, as long as this does not lead to a conflict of interests.
The Court accentuates the importance of a DPO’s independence and concludes that the DPO must not participate in any decisions regarding the methods or objectives of the processing of personal data.
